That tricky matching thing…Mentor Software

Written by Kim Wise | Sun, Aug 16, 2009 @ 05:42 AM

I’m often surprised at how little consideration is taken when matching mentoring partners. I find organizations go to great lengths to match the way that they think they should but in reality, their matches don’t create optimal results.

For any partnership to create great results, there has to be compatibility. Yes, for those of you thinking that this isn’t true, you are right. You can learn something from someone totally unlike you, but is it fun? Do you want to go back for more? Can you do it without stress? Think about it. If you were a mentor and were volunteering your time to help someone else grow, would you really want to spend it trying to sink in thoughts to someone with whom you share nothing in common? Probably not. It wouldn’t make you bad, but why not spend your time with someone who is fun for you?
